Zoe the crochet zebra’s ears and legs are joined as you go, making for very little sewing indeed. Her moveable limbs mean that she can sit, stand, and lie down with ease. She has a very large head, making her more of a grazing Zebra than a graceful one.
Zoe is the fourth animal in the Little Zoo series. She is the second animal I have done in collaboration with the talented Anette Bak.
Here she is having a little sit-down on a paint-splatter square. Anette says it looks like the colourful Zebra ate the paint splatters, which is why they have holes in the centres.

This is a bit of a Dribs and Drabs tutorial. Each part of this pattern has its very own tutorial. Below you will find a list of links to each of the parts you will need to make your little Zebra.
If you are confident in your abilities, use the PDF pattern above and simply refer back to the relevant tutorials below if you get stuck.
Size
Using double knit yarn and a 4 mm hook (US G/6 UK 8), Zoe will be approximately 9 cm high and 12 cm from nose to tail (3 ½” x 4 ¾”). Using worsted weight yarn, Zoe will be approx. 10 cm high and 13 cm from nose to tail (4” x 5 ¼”).

- 4 mm hook (US G/6 UK 8)
- Double knit yarn (light worsted weight) or worsted weight yarn in two colours (50 meters/55 yards total)
- Yarn needle
- Stuffing
- Optional: 5 mm safety eyes or buttons
Abbreviations
US Terminology used. Find the US/UK comparison chart here.
- CC – Contrasting colour (black)
- MC – Main colour (white)
- Ch – Chain
- RSM -Running stitch marker (see below)
- Sc – Single crochet
- Sc Inc – Single crochet increase
- Sc2tog – Single crochet 2 together (single crochet decrease)
- Sl st – Slip stitch
- Standing sc – Standing single crochet (see this tutorial)
- St/st’s – Stitch/stitches
- * – Repeat all instructions between asterisks the amount of times specified. *Sc inc, 3 x sc* x 2, for example, will mean “sc inc in the next st, sc in the next 3 st’s, sc inc in the next st, sc in the next 3 st’s”
- ( ) – Numbers in parentheses at the end of each row/round are stitch counts
Instructions
Before you start with the Head and Body of your crochet zebra:
Make 2 Ears (following this tutorial)
Then make 4 Legs (following this tutorial)
Once you have made the Ears and the Legs, make the Head and Mane (following this tutorial).
When you have completed the Head, make the Body (following this tutorial).
And last, but by no means least, add a Tail (by following this tutorial).
