How to Crochet: Fpdc2tog {Raised Dc2tog}

Fpdc2tog Front post double crochet 2 together

Front post double crochet 2 together {fpdc2tog} is not a stitch you will come across often.  It yields a lovely raised inverted V and is the same as a dc2tog, except that you work around the posts of the stitches rather than into the loops.  It is also sometimes called a front post double crochet decrease {fpdc dec} or a raised dc2tog.

Fpdc2tog {US Terminology}

For this example I have used Julee Reeve’s Winter Rose, the photo tutorial for which can be found here {with Julee’s permission}.  I will be making the fpdc2tog’s around the posts of fpdc’s.  It makes it a little easier to see the posts.  The instructions remain the same when making them around normal dc’s/sc’s/tr’s.

Yarn over and insert your hook from front to back around the post of the next stitch (Photo 1).  Yarn over (Photo 2) and pull up a loop (Photo 3).  There should be 3 loops on your hook.  Yarn over (Photo 4) and pull through 2 loops (Photo 5).  There should now be 2 loops on your hook.

Yarn over and insert your hook from front to back around the post of the next stitch (Photo 6).  Yarn over (Photo 7) and pull up a loop (Photo 8).  There should be 4 loops on your hook.  Yarn over (Photo 9) and pull through 2 loops (Photo 10).  There should now be 3 loops on your hook.  Yarn over (Photo 11) and pull through all 3 loops (Photo 12).

Congratulations!  You have now completed one front post double crochet two together.

    Thank you for the pictorial lesson. I prefer written explanation and pictures than videos! Most videos are too fast and its hard watching and trying to do it at the same time. Thank you!

    Goodness, thank you! I came across a pattern that called for this, and I stopped in my tracks. I’d not heard of it before. Now, I have and I can move right along!
