This pattern has taken me 2 months to make and refine. I must admit that I did plenty of other things while “working” on the pattern, but even so, of all my patterns this one has taken the longest. I love how it turned out, though, and hope that you enjoy making it!
The first 6 rounds of Sophie’s Mandala were heavily inspired by Chris Simon’s Lace Petals Square, so before I could even think about publishing this pattern, I had to get Chris’ permission to use her centre. Luckily, she agreed!

Hi! I have just finished my fourth mandala, and have gone all the way to universe with one of them. Thank you for this magnificent pattern!
My favorite thing to do with the mandalas is to sew them to the back of a jean jacket, and I’ve gotten several requests to buy one from me. Before I agree to sell them, and possibly even open an Etsy store or something, I need to make sure that you’re absolutely fine with me using your pattern (complete credit, of course). If you’re not ok with it, that’s totally fine and I will not use your pattern online.
Thank you,
Melanie

Hi! Im having A LOT of trouble working round 6. For the instructions, (Ch 2, sc in the next ch-2 space) twice, is that all in the SAME space TWICE?
Thank you!
Jenny says
Hi Erica.
What it means is you ch2, then sc in the next ch sp, then ch 2 and sc in the next ch sp after that (so you are working over two stitches not all in the same one). The actions in the brackets are repeated twice in sequence. Any instruction after a set of brackets just means the number of times you repeat that action that is within the brackets.
Hope that helps.
Jenny :)

Hi!
Your work is exquisite! I am wondering if anyone has tried this in thread? I have been obsessed with making doilies lately and this looks fun and challenging, as long as it can be done…
Thanks!
Renata
Dedri Uys says
Thank you, Renata. Geneva-Kae Snyder has actually made it in thread and you can see my post about it here.

Love your beautiful designs! It takes great talent and creativity to design patterns. You are a true artist! I have a question for everyone… Has anyone incorporated Dedri’s patterns into afghans or other items?
Thanks!

Jenny says
Sophie has been made in to vests and window hangings, Sue. Are you aware of the afghan Sophie’s Universe Mystery CAL created around Sophie’s Garden?
Sue says
No I did not. Where can I find it? Thanks!

I am working this gorgeous pattern now, but I am confused how you get from 84 st count end of round 7, to 96 st count end of round 8. Hdc into every BLO stitch of round 7 still gives 84 st end of round 8, not 96, so I am 12 st short. My stitch count all the way through from beginning to end of round 7 is to pattern. Shall I just add a few increases in round 8?
Jenny says
Hi Emma, Jenny here.
For round 8 to get the stitch count to 96, you do 2 HDC in some of the stitches…
“Hdc in the BLO of the next 5 st’s and make 2 HDC’s IN THE BLO OF THE NEXT ST (Photo 2). *Hdc in the BLO of the next 6 st’s, make 2 HDC’s IN THE BLO OF THE NEXT ST* Repeat from * to * 10 times.”
That brings the count to 96 stitches for round 8 :)

Hi Jenny,
Aha! I see now. I was following the written pattern only. Will recommence with the photo tutorial! Thank you immensely for your swift reply. Much appreciated.
