Frequently Asked Questions

As these questions arise, I will address them here.

1 How Do I Know Which Colours to Use?

At the start of each part, there will be a key telling you which shades (A-K) to use for each Row/Round of your chosen colourway.  This key relates to the information supplied for each colourway in the Reveal Post.  Ruth Lambert had the brilliant idea of creating a cheat sheet for this:

2 How Much Yarn Will I Use for Each Round?

I have created a spreadsheet that details how much yarn you will need round-by-round for each colourway.  These amounts are based on the suggested gauge for the pattern in the Tips and Tricks (Heart House) section.  Below each part, there is also a row that details how much you can use before the kit quantities become a problem (this is 1.1 times the suggested usage).  Finally, there is a row that shows you which colours you will run out of first if you crochet even looser than the kit allowance (this is 1.2 times the suggested usage).

You can find this spreadsheet HERE.

This is an example of what you will find and how it is laid out:

2 Which Yarn/Colours are You Using in the Videos?

I am using Scheepjes Softfun for the video tutorials because I really like the way the stitch definition makes everything so clear to see.  I have had some requests for information on this version, so I have put together a blog post about it HERE.  In that post, you will find information for the gauge, estimated size and yarn usage, and colours per round.

I am still working my way through this version as I create the videos, so I don’t have a finished photo of it yet, but this is what it looks like at the end of Part 7:

Hi Sharon, can you tell me if you are using the blog version or a PDF version of the pattern, and if PDF, are you using US or UK terms? I have checked the instructions here, and the pattern is the same in the video as in the written instructions, so I would like to clarify so I can help you with this.

The pattern says 3.75 mm hook with Colour Crafter but the video shows 4mm hook. Which is correct? I don’t want to run out of yarn.
    Thank you.

3.75 is advised Lorry. Always trust the written pattern :)

Hi Lorry. I am using a bigger hook because I crochet tight. It is the hook I needed to get the suggested gauge.
