Simple Flower Crochet Face Scrubbie

I made these crochet face scrubbies for my sister when she came to visit in June.  She is very into her beauty routine, so even though I had already given her my favourite crochet rug (more about that in a sec) and 2 linen stitch dishcloths, I felt the need to make her some gentle face scrubbies as well.

There is nothing more rewarding on this earth than giving someone something they really want and will appreciate.  Had she not liked the scrubbies as I described them to her, I wouldn’t have bothered making them.  Had she not liked the dishcloths, it wouldn’t have been a tragedy and she needn’t have taken them.

The rug, however, was another matter altogether!  I saw her eyeing it up almost as soon as she arrived, but it being my very favourite rug, I didn’t just want to give it to her unless I was VERY sure that she loved it as much as I did.  So I spied on her.  Every couple of days I would see her wander over to it for a little look-see or a little feel…and every time she did, I was that little bit more convinced that she should have it.

Her reaction when I finally offered it to her?  Well, lets just say that had she not been able to get it into her suitcase, I am convinced that she would have worn it around her shoulders like an African Chieftain.

Crochet Round Rug

I know…I’m rambling…but I am looking at the spot where my rug used to live…missing my little sister.

Back to the crochet face scrubbies.

I wanted to use a pattern that worked up quickly while still being pretty, so I went with the Simple Crochet Flower pattern (which you can find the written-only version of below).

I used Rowan Classic Cotton Jeans.

Just a side note about this yarn:  I LOVE IT!  I used it for the first time when I tested the Rolling Ridge Blanket for Felted Button.  It is soft, absorbent, whimsical, and sweet, making it the perfect yarn to use for face scrubbies.

Size

Approximately 5″

Notes

The initial ch st’s in each round do not count as a stitch!

Instructions

Round 1

Into a magic ring:  ch 1, 8 x hdc.  Join to the first hdc with a sl st.  Ignore the chain stitch, it doesn’t count as a stitch and is there purely to get you to the required height.  {8}

Round 2

Ch 1.  Make 2 hdc’s in each of the 8 st’s around.  Join to the first hdc with a sl st.  {16}

Round 3

Ch 2.  (Make 3 dc’s in the next st, sl st in the next 2 st’s, make 3 dc’s in the next st) three times.  Make 3 dc’s in the next st and sl st in the last 2 st’s.  Make 3 dc’s in the same st as the sl st join.  Join to the first dc with a sl st, ignoring the initial ch-2.  {24 – not including the ch st’s and the sl st’s}

Round 4

Ch 2.  Make 2 dc’s in the same stitch.  Make 2 dc’s in each of the next 2 st’s.  Sl st in the next st, which will be the last st of the petal.  Skip the next st, which will be the sl st between petals.

(Sl st in the first st of the next petal, make 2 dc’s in each of the next 5 st’s, sl st in the last st of the petal, skip the sl st between petals) three times.  Sl st in the first st of the last petal.  Make 2 dc’s in each of the next 2 st’s.  Join to the first dc with a sl st, again ignoring the initial ch-2.  Ch 1 and bind off.  Work away your tails of yarn.  {40 – not counting ch st’s and sl st’s}
