Charlotte’s Dream: The Yarn

While I have been busy playing around with growing Charlotte, Jenny has created a gorgeous blanket that features 12 Charlottes in striking vintage colours.  Jenny and I have spent many happy hours choosing colours, chatting about a name, and oohing and aahing over the individual squares.  Because this is Jenny’s blanket, she got to choose the name, and she decided to call it ‘Charlotte’s Dream’.

Charlotte's Dream Stonewashed Yarn

Jenny chose to use Scheepjes Stonewashed, which has become my favourite yarn to work with.  Having used Scheepjes Stonewashed XL for the large version of Sophie’s Universe, I am totally hooked on it.  I love the ‘fuzz’, the stonewashed look, and the subdued vibrancy of the colours.

For Charlotte’s Dream, we decided on the following colours:

  • Contrasting Colours (CC) – 2 skeins each of Rose Quartz (820), Yellow Jasper (809), Lilac Quartz (818), Garnet (810), Deep Amethyst (811), Lemon Quartz (812), Carnelian (823), Amazonite (813), Canada Jade (806), Blue Apatite (805), Coral (816), and Green Agate (815)
  • Main Colour 1 (MC1) – 12 skeins of Moon Stone (801)
  • Main Colour 2 (MC2) – 12 skeins of Smokey Quartz (802)

Yarn packs for Charlotte’s Dream can be purchased from my Wool Warehouse Store HERE.  The yarn packs contain a printed version of the pattern (which will be made available on my website on the 28th of October).  You can also find the yarn packs HERE on Deramores.  If neither of these suit, you can find a full list of stockists for this yarn HERE.

Using a 3.5 mm crochet hook (US 4/E, UK 9), the blanket ended up being 172 cm (68”) x 130 cm (51”) in size.

I love the way the colours play together, and the whimsical feel created by using a mix of bold and pastel colours.  We will be showing you some sneak peeks of the blanket next week, followed by a Reveal the week after, and the full pattern the week after that.

I hope to see you back here next week for some sneak peeks of Charlotte’s Dream!

I agree Linda and Jenny’s video tutorials are fantastic. I’m also in South Africa and used Vinnis Colours for my Charlotte, it is beautiful even if i say so myself

Hi there. which vinnis colours did you use? I am currently crocheting Sophie’s Universe and have run out of some colours. The stockist in Kwa-Zulu Natal does not seem to be operating anymore so I am so sad as I was enjoying working on the blanket so much. It would help if I can use Vinnis colours.

O I just love Charlotte. I am still busy with my rainbow Sophie and enjoy every moment of it. I am going to order the kit or what ever I can find in South Africa, and stash it for later on. Dedri I don’t think you relise how much you do for a lot of ladies. I told my friends anyone can crochet if you can read and use one of Dedri’s patterns. You make it just so easy. Thank you so much.

I’m wondering… is the yarn weight considered worsted or sport weight?
I don’t think I can afford the recommended yarn. I like it very much though.

The yarn is a bit lighter than Worsted, which is what we call Aran in the UK. We class the Stone Wash as DK or double knit over here.
As Dedri says, you can make it in a different yarn if you so wish. Worsted would make the squares larger than you will see wih Charlotte’s Dream.
      Jenny :)

Oh my gosh – I have just ordered a kit. I was on a ‘self ban’ from buying any more kits – I have three stashed away that I haven’t started!!

Just had to have this one and I will be starting it as soon as I can, lol.

    The yarn looks gorgeous.

I am an average crocheter. I recently finished a CAL – Last Dance on the Beach where I learned some new techniques. Prior to that I had only done basic granny/peggy squares. Hope this isn’t too advanced for me but I’ll give it my best shot.

Nellie, as ever, Dedri’s pattern is superbly written and takes you through the process really well. Take it slowly and surely, and I am sure you will be fine :)

Hi Elizabeth. The pattern for the square is in 3 parts (on my website HERE) and there are plenty of photos to help you on your way. Why don’t you try making the first part (the central square) and see how you go?

I know I am biased, but I can’t wait for the big reveal! This has been such a lovely project to create and I really miss not having a Charlotte square on my hook :)
I hope everyone enjoys the reveal as much as I enjoyed making Charlotte’s Dream, and is encouraged to get the kit and make their own!

Jenny, I cannot tell you how much I love your blanket. At the moment, she is draped over my lap (the pink meringue one is farthest away from me), and it will be a sad day when I give her back to you!! I have so enjoyed watching your squares grow each week :) You’re a star!
