Crochet Ice-Cream Cone/Cupcake Bag Pattern

Crochet Ice-cream Cone Purse Cupcake (1)

A good while ago now I shared a pattern for a crochet Ice-Cream Cone Purse.  But it wasn’t girly enough, so I immediately created this pattern here.  Unfortunately I was so busy doing various other things that I never shared the revised pattern.  Today I am finally getting around to it.  So if you know someone who would like a little Ice-cream cone purse or wrist bag, you’re in luck!  And if you scroll down a little bit further, you will find the pattern for the little cupcake purse too.

Drawstring for both bags

Ch 70 and bind off, leaving a long tail on both ends of the chain.

Assembly for both bags

Crochet Ice-cream Cone Purse Cupcake (7)

Starting from the inside, feed the drawstring through 7 holes.  The drawstring should now be hanging outside the bag.  Thread a large bead onto the drawstring (pref red) followed by a small bead.  Thread the drawstring back through the large bead, trapping the small bead in the loop that forms.

Crochet Ice-cream Cone Purse Cupcake (8)

Thread the drawstring through the next 7 holes.  You should now have both tails hanging inside the bag.  Knot the tails securely and work away.

What do you mean by “work away”. After threading the drawstring and tying the ends you say work away.

Dedri simply means to work in the end/s of yarn when she states to work away :)

I love the cute purse BUT ending with 44 sts, I have 11 loops. How can I make this work for the drawstring? Did I mess up somewhere? Do I need an even or uneven number of loops for the drawstring to work?
I apologize for all the questions. Thank you kindly.

Hi Dorothy. Maybe try threading through 6 stitches before adding the bead and then through 5. I doubt it will even notice once drawn tight :)

I of course dont have something that really ‘works’ as the bottom color for the cupcake. But I really dont care, so I used some rainbow vargiated stuff I have :3. Not used to using SC so much, so I have to keep reminding myself to do that instead of HDC or DC XD

My 3 year old always says she’s a cupcake with rainbow frosting, sprinkles and a cherry. So, when I found your pattern I was in 7th heaven. Made it last night and today going to sew on sprinkles. Thank you so very much.

Over 30 years ago I crocheted some ice cream cones and stuffed them for ornaments on the tree. They were about 4-5 inches. Some I put essential oil in for fragrance since we had an artitifial tree. They looked very real.
Thank you for this pattern; Over the years and noves i lost my pattern and one year my box with all the ornaments I made with the kids, the kids ornaments was stolen because someone thought they had an expensive gift in that big box I used christmas wrap on to distinguish the ornamnets and stuff from the regular storage. :(
So I will able to adapt this to make some more. I have some precious memories and stories about my grandsons with those ice cream cone ornaments if you would care to hear them.

Pat, how horrid that someone would steal your ornaments. Have you got any photos of them?

hello, thank you for posting this cute little bag. It comes together very well. I am having trouble adding the drawstring. I’m not sure if it’s b/c I have 12 loops and not 14. Please help.
    Thanks again

      Hi Kay.

Can you explain a bit more about what you are having trouble with? If you have an even number of loops you should still be able to start on the outside and end on the outside…

This bag is the perfect model to make a plasticbag-bag to hang in the kitchen. I will crochet some of them to give to my friends. Here in Chile we keep the pastic bags of the supermarket to use them later. Thanks for the pattern and specially for the idea. Ana
