This Little Leaf Crochet Pattern takes all of 5 minutes to make and less than 1 meter (1 yard) of yarn. And once you’ve made one you can chuck away the instructions and make them in under 2 minutes…or maybe not. I suppose it depends on how quick you crochet and how many kids/cats/dogs are vying for your attention. Either way, they are quick and easy and perfect for stash-busting.
Below you will find a photo-tutorial for the leaf. If anything is unclear, read the written instructions below the photo tutorial, which are more in-depth.
Before you start I should probably mention that you can use any hook and yarn combination under the sun. If you want dainty little leaves, use cotton thread. If you want hulking big leaves, use super bulky yarn and a 10 mm hook.

This Little Leaf Written Instructions
Ch 4. Sc in the top loop only of the second chain from the hook. Make 2 hdc’s in the top loop only of the next ch. Sc in the top loop only of the last chain. This will leave 2 loops unworked on each of the 3 chain stitches.
Ch 2. Sl st in the second chain from the hook. This will form a little point at the end of the leaf.
Now you will work back along the other side of the 3 foundation chain stitches and OVER the initial tail of yarn. So working into the remaining loops of the 3 chain st’s: sc in the first ch, make 2 hdc’s in the second chain, sc in the last chain. This will bring you back to the beginning of the leaf.
Join to the first sc with a sl st. Ch 1 and bind off. Pull the ch-1 tight so that it forms a little knot. Use the final tail of yarn to attach your crochet leaf to anything you fancy.
I have used mine in a little project I will reveal soon. To go along with the leaves (because you can’t JUST have leaves), I have made some of Kinga’s lovely 5-Petal Cluster Flowers.
And if you are wondering what I did, you will have to wait a little while. It’s only a little project, but it makes me smile when I look at it.
Thank you to Kimberly Slifer, Lesley Lord, Janice Carter-Jones, and Paula Wetzel for testing the little leaf pattern for me.

I love the leaf photo tutorial and the blanket you made and crochet it on. Is there a download pdf I can get the little leaf instructions as well as the afghan. Can you please let me know. Thanks M
Dedri Uys says
Meme, the leaf is sewn onto a griddle stitch lovie (no pattern yet) and the leaf instructions are only available on my website as an infographic (picture).

Thank you. They are faster-than-light quick…ok…maybe not THAT fast x

I love these little leaves. I made bigger ones by doubling the chain length and adding in some dc stitches. Same basic pattern with a little tweak. Worked great. Thanks for the inspiration Dedri. Love your site.

Thank you, Judi. You can make any number of different leaves in this way, I’m guessing. Connie Gerbrandt designed these ruffled leaves to go with my granny’s pansies, and they work on the same basic principle.

I love this. I just found it so haven’t made any yet, but paired with the flowers and attached to a long crocheted vine and string it up in a living room, on a deck or patio it would be very lovely for family and friends to see.
