Ooooh, Sophie’s Autumn Dream makes my insides go all fuzzy. The original (Summer) version was bright and bold – fierce and ‘focus on me’. Sophie’s Winter Dream was elegant and calming – a ballerina with perfect posture. Sophie’s Spring Dream is full of joy – skipping and twirling and giggling. This Autumn version… it feels earthy and grounded – wisdom and a comforting embrace. It is a quiet celebration of rich tones and soothing colours.
What I found really interesting about this colourway is how different the blanket turned out to how I thought it would when Jenny showed me the individual balls of Whirl. When I look at the Whirls, I see a lot of beige, light brown, light grey, light blue. Maybe it’s just me, or an optical illusion, but I feel like these Whirls worked up much richer than I thought they would.
I cannot tell you how grateful I am to Jenny for making all four versions of Sophie’s Dream. It was the most glorious journey, watching her work her way through 48(!!) Sophie’s Gardens. These blankets hold many MANY memories, conversations and gleeful laughs.
To create your own Sophie’s Autumn Dream, you’ll have to follow the original pattern HERE. Don’t click on the link yet, though! There are a few things you need to know about this colourway if you wish to recreate it:

Deciding on Your Layout
Jenny’s Layout
Just like with the Spring version, Jenny decided to give each Whirl its own row. This worked particularly well because of the balance of light and dark in each individual ball.
We are aware that individual tastes vary greatly, so you are, of course, free to change your layout. You can find hints for doing so in the original pattern.
Although the joining instructions don’t change between colour versions, I am including a graphic for joining this specific colourway here. Hopefully, it will help those of you who like to visualise things.
I am also including a photo of the border for colour-placement reference:
Thank you for choosing to make this blanket. If you share photos of your project, please use #sophiesdreamblanket so that we can all Ooh! and Aah!

Hi
I want to use another colour instead of citrus for the border what do you recommend?
Regards
José
Jenny Lowman says
Citrus was the colour I chose to make the original, but you could pick any colour you like, really. Coulis, sizzle, banana, mango, macadamia, crushed candy, pomegranate, plum, star fruit, delicious…so many colours to choose from that would match the autumn whirls.

I have ordered the Autumn Dream yarn but want to add one more Scheepjes Whirl to these 4. Any suggestions, please?
Jenny Lowman says
I would pick another with autumnal colours that you like. Tasty Nom Nom or Scrumtious Lush perhaps?

Hi Dedri and Jenny,
I’m working on my seconde Sophie’s Dream, this time in autumn colors. I just wanted to let both of you know how much I love the new schematics. Having completed this pattern about 20 times now, they are a quick and visual way to remind yourself just what this row entails. I love the way you put the stitch counts in, the use of color etc. Thanks so much for all the time and effort you’ve both put into the designs and colorways. My origninal Sophie’s Dream remains one the most admired of my efforts. Julie
Jenny Lowman says
