Yay! I can finally show you the Camping in Cornwall Rug. I absolutely love it! It is big and squishy, and the colours are so very pretty.
This is one of those projects that looks better in real life than on photos. I took the rug to work today to show Jenny, and I got so many compliments between my office and hers. Usually, no-one pays my blanket-toting self any mind, so I was very pleased indeed.
The rug has a lot of surface detail/texture. I’ve included overlay, ruffled flowers, popcorns, and bobbles. Oh, and lots of back post stitches. I am so grateful that Sophie got me over my aversion for making back post stitches because I cannot seem to do a design without using them!
Here you can see the rug from the side. It will give you a better idea of the texture. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: I am so happy with how the ruffled flowers are tacked down. Actually, if I squint, they could be misshapen butterflies…
And here she is all done! You might recognise the flower in the middle as a less-fancy version of Fancy Nancy. In fact, the idea for this design sprung from a desire to plant Nancy in a bigger frame :)
And a close-up… Heehee! Doesn’t that just make you smile?
One of the things I struggled to capture in these photos is the slight sheen of the yarn. Lucky for you, I found a WIP photo in full sunlight that DOES show it :)
How I wish that I had a beautiful room with distressed furniture and shabby floorboards to photograph this rug in. Alas, I had to make do with my trusty (mossy) outdoor ‘photo studio’ (also known as the place where the boys throw all their rubbish OR ‘the plant cemetery’).
Note the scattered Oyster shells all the way from Catch Mawgan Porth. I had high hopes for them…
It is hard to see scale without pretty furniture and/or a cute baby in the photo, but the blocked rug is 95cm/37.5” in diameter and weighs 1100g. It actually feels really nice draped over your lap too, and I miss the weight of working on it now that I am done.
I thought you would appreciate seeing how I managed to take that photo without feet in the shot. Note to self: never stand on rickety chairs and rotten benches in the name of art again!
I will be sharing the pattern for this rug next Monday. In the meantime, here are the materials I used:

Hi, I just love it, I’m going to make it, but, with lighter yarn, I want to cover my Sophie stool with this design! Thanks, you keep me busy!

What a great idea! It might be a little bit too big, though, so you’d have to fudge the last few rounds :)
