I’m going to keep this short and simple for a change.
My boys love painting in the bath and I am sure they are not the only ones. But bath paints and bath crayons are so expensive. Right?
WRONG!
I am going to tell you how to make your own bath paints with ingredients you probably already have in your home. There are a million and one recipes for DIY bath paints on the web already and it’s not exactly rocket science, but I might as well throw in my ten cents’ worth.
DIY Bath Paint
You will need:
1/4 cup of baby wash or baby shampoo
1 tbsp corn starch
a teeny tiny bit of gel food colouring
ten minutes
I used Asda’s Little Angels head to toe wash because it is both cheap and clear, but you can use yellow baby shampoo with equally good results.
Simply stir the corn starch into the baby wash and add your colouring. Don’t stir too vigorously, otherwise you will get a layer of foam on top of your paint. But make sure you mix the colouring in thoroughly. To avoid any lumps you can mix the corn starch with a little bit of the soap first and then add the rest of the soap.
This recipe is enough for one colour. Of course you can divide it and make a bunch of colours, but you’d end up with a tablespoon of each colour. What a lot of hassle for ten minutes of fun.
If you want to make more, just double, triple or quadruple the recipe and then divide the paint into different pots for colouring.
You can store your paint in little plastic containers…
…or you can make A LOT and store it in baby food jars like I did.
Notice the foam on top of my paints? That’s what I meant with stirring too vigorously.
These paints keep very well and they have the added bonus of cleaning the kids as they mess. And the corn starch will soothe and protect your little ones’ skin to boot!
If the paint separates slightly, just give it a good mix again before using it.
