Greetings from Sunny South Africa! Yep, you read that right!! I have been blessed with the opportunity to spend Christmas with my parents and siblings this year. What a great ending to a very eventful 2025.
It has now been a week since the official end of the Universe in Bloom CAL, and two weeks since we released the last part. My Facebook feed has been flooded with the most beautiful Universes, making both my heart and my eyes very happy.
Today, I would like to share some of my favourite ‘Team Free Spirit’ versions with you. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and I’m pretty sure I’ll keep adding to it as more blankets are completed. For now, I’ll focus mainly on completed blankets made in Scheepjes yarns :)
Having said that, I’m kicking this post off by sharing a progress photo by Cooks Shurer. When I saw this photo, it resonated with me so much! The happy chaos and bussy-ness… this is what my mind felt like throughout this design journey and CAL!!

Righto, here is my roundup of completed ‘Team Free Spirit’ blankets (made in Scheepjes yarn) for you to feast your eyes on. You will find LOADS more colour inspiration on Ravelry HERE. And the Official Scheepjes – International Group (English) or the Official Scheepjes – Nederlandse Groep (Dutch) are both great sources of inspiration and help!
Ooh, and if you haven’t already seen it, I have no shared the spreadsheets that show round-by-round yarn usage for each colourway. You can find the link under Frequently Asked Questions in the Information Post.
Cotton 8
Allyson Breeds made this gorgeous ‘Ubuntiverse’ using the colours from the Small Ubuntu kit (CAL 2018). You can find more information about the colours she used HERE on Ravelry.

Cotton Create
Heather Jewel made this lovely adaptation of Galaxy, and I love how that sunny yellow makes certrain elements POP.

Lisa Peng created this beautiful, calm version and I keep coming back to it to see exactly what it is about it that makes me so happy to look at!

Didi Bruin made this beautiful version, kindly sharing the following information. I have the same feeling about this one as I do about Lisa’s one. I am utterly intrigued by why this colour arrangement makes me so happy!
Colours used:
- 659 Secure – 5 balls
- 515 Mark – 2 balls
- 722 Mend – 3 balls
- 657 Gather – 4 balls
- 669 Cast Off – 5 balls
- 501 Tie – 8 balls
- 642 Design – 3 balls
Size: 150 cm x 150 cm

Kitty Bakker followed the Delft colourway, but with her own twist and using Cotton Create. Once again, the addition of yellow is brilliant as an accent colour!

Colour Crafter
This beauty, made by Tina Hjalmarsson Laine, is utterly stunning!!! It looks like a painting or a print. I LOVE IT!! I wish I was brave enough to use dark colours for my background, but with my eyesight, I’d probably spend more time frogging than crocheting. Even so, I am SO tempted to do something similar!

And on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, we have Jan Webster’s beautiful version. I think her layout is genious, and the white (cream)/grey would make a brilliant backdrop for any colour pops in your chosen colour.

Here is Sam Wilson’s cheeky version.
And here is Bobby. I’m naming her after Dedri using a bobby pin in the first video to start off this whole adventure. I thought that was so cute.

Mary Araneo also followed the Delft colourway, but with Pink accents to add personality and contrast.

And then we flip back to bold and fun with Pam Hook’s colourful version!

The last Colour Crafter version I want to share is Joanne Borden’s stunning ‘Poinsettia’. Isn’t it perfect for the season??

Stonewashed
Lynn Griffith’s Stonewashed version feels like sandy beaches and tropical sea. I smile every time I look at it!

Rosanna Maggi Churin created a Stonewashed version inspired by the Earth colourway, using a 4mm Clover Amour hook. She’s abourt 190cm and weighs 2.5kg.

Ruth Lambert has now made 3 Universe in Bloom blankets. Her first one was the original Earth sample, her second one we will feature in a minute, and this one was inspired by the Delft colourway.
Colours used:
- A – 801 Moonstone (17 balls)
- B – 845 Royal Azurite (7 balls)
- C – 846 Lazurite (7 balls)
- D – 805 Blue Apatite (5 balls)
- E – 847 Sodalite (8 balls)

Whirl
Katie Marie made this striking version using Rainbow Popsicle Whirls and Chewy Whirlettes.

Anna Robinson Moore is one of my testers and a dear friend. She LOVES Whirl, so it was no wonder that she decided to make a Whirl version. She used two Turkish Delight Whirls and Whirlettes in Crushed Candy, Frosted and Bilberry.

Whirligig, Whirligigette, and Woolwise
Ruth Lambert – Grasslands
This was Ruth’s second version, and it blew me away! If you are in the Facebook Group, you will find colours per round instructions for this version shared there.
Colours used:
- Whirligig 207 – Green to Blue (2 balls)
- Whirligigette 254 – Ochre (3 balls)
- Whirligigette 255 – Blue (4 balls)
- Whirligigette 256 – Green (5 balls)
- Woolwise 752 – Aqua Marine (4 balls)
- Woolwise 753 – Mossy Glenn (2 balls)
- Woolwise 755 – Pine Needle (2 balls)
Hook: 4mm

I hope these gorgeous colourways have given you some inspiration, and the bravery to try your own colourways.
May you have a wonderful, blessed Christmas, and a fantastic 2026!
