Hello!!! I am so excited to finally reveal the blanket I designed for the Official Scheepjes CAL 2025: Universe in Bloom. It is an explosion of flowers and colour, texture and lace, stories and joy! I think it dances between structured and organic – like a garden bursting into bloom while still maintaining balance and symmetry.
This crochet-along has been in the works for almost two years. That is a long time to keep a secret! The idea and name came to me within a week of accepting the invitation to design this blanket. I even stumbled across an old sketch my friend Jack had done for me years ago – right as I was starting to plan. It felt like a sign!
The name comes from a song I heard for the first time that same week: ‘All You Got is Gold‘ by indie band The Great Escape. Its uplifting spirit mirrors the vibrant, blossoming motifs in this design, reminding us that even in uncertainty, we hold the potential to bloom and shine.
What is the Universe in Bloom CAL?
This blanket begins with a Flower inside a Flower inside a Flower (Parts 1 & 2). This giant bloom transforms into a large mandala (Parts 3 & 4) that could easily stand alone as a wall-hanging if that is your jam. I like to think of it as a big meadow.
From there, we build a brook (Part 5), a floral border (Parts 6 & 7), a Pineapple band (Part 8), and a gentle path (Part 9). Then – the Heart Houses and their triangle flower patches. These help square the blanket up (Parts 10 & 11) before we finish with a brick road border.

Official Universe in Bloom CAL Kits
There are six official kits: three in Colour Crafter and three in Cotton Create.
These colourways were inspired by YOU! Last year, I ran a survey asking for your favourite colour combinations. Over 400 responses later, clear trends emerged (some surprising!), and I have done my best to honour the themes you shared.
Each kit includes:
- All the yarn you need for the blanket
- A large (gorgeous) tote bag
- A set of Tulip stitch markers
- A cute little ‘Look at what I Made’ lable to sew onto your blanket, should you wish to do so :)
For ‘Free Spirit’ crafters, the tote and stitch markers will also be available from select retailers as part of a ‘build-your-own’ option.
Please Note: Each kit has generous yardage to allow for moderate gauge variation. If you tend to crochet loosely, some colours may run tight. I’ve marked those with an asterisk in the colour list for each kit.
Where to Find Kits:
- My Wool Warehouse Shop (UK/International)*
- Black Sheep Wools (UK/International)
- Knotty House (Canada)
- Taemombo (Canada)
- Jimmy Beans (USA)*
- BellMae Yarns (Australia)
- More Scheepjes Retailers

And just because I can’t resist, I’ll share a colour-inspiration photo of this one from the planning stage… featuring my cute nephew Greyson (from the I Carry Your Heart mandala).
I also can’t resist showing you each colourway laid out in a field full of wild-flowers…

I am so super excited. Ordered the Delft Color choice.
Jenny Lowman says
A lovely choice! :)
Larissa says
I am wondering if there is an email list to get on for the post notices? I do not actively use FB & IG since the US election. I am rarely on it, I did join the International group, but I am worried I will miss notices.
Jenny Lowman says
Hi Larissa. Dedri will be posting all the info here on the blog. The Scheepjes website will also feature the cal, it I am afraid most of the information will be issued via the Scheepjes international Facebook group.
Dedri does have a newsletter, but it is not always regularly published due to her busy lifestyle.
Jennie says
Hello! Huge fan here and super excited for this next project!
I will be doing a very soft neutral colour way as this is a wedding gift . 1 hoped for support in planning
1. Is there a plain template to support me in identifying/choosing colours
2. Free styling option to obtain the tote and markers- I’m looking to purchase Scheepjes from wool warehouse, how will they know it’s for this project so I can get the tote and markers?
Hope this is clear
Thank you for these wonderful patterns – Jennie
Jenny Lowman says
There will be plain line templates to use for your own colour schemes, yes.
The tote and markers are only available when you purchase the kits, I am afraid.
Dineke de Vries-Kamp says
Dank je wel voor dit prachtige patroon. zelfs de voorbereidingen zijn al leuk.
Colleen Giles says
Hi, I love this pattern, I want to make it as a wedding present for my daughter. Your web site has sold out of the kit I wanted, Please, do you sell the pattern as a PDF Download so I can buy the yarn separately & make the blanket?
I live in Australia.
Dedri Uys says
Hi Colleen, congratulations on your daughter’s impending nuptials :) The pattern has not been released yet – it will be released in weekly parts starting October the 8th. You are welcome to buy your yarn separately. There is a list of number of balls needed for each colourway in this post, so you can use that as a starting point for buying your yarn :)
Zohi says
Hi!!
I have a question about the kits.
Could you please help me. I want to know the difference between each kit? There are 3 prices $99, $119 and $129.
At the beginning I thought it was because of the difference in yarn, but each one has the same six options and the same number of balls.
Thanks
Dedri Uys says
Hi Zohi, can you tell me on what website you were looking so that I can understand where these prices are coming from? The Colour Crafter ones all have the same number of balls, so they will all be one price. Two of the Cotton Create kits have 33 balls and one has 30 balls, so the two with 33 balls will be one price, and the one with 30 balls will be slightly cheaper.
Zohi says
Oh! I’m sorry, I thought I wrote the web page. Sorry
I saw the Jimmy Beans web page
https://jimmybeanswool.com/collections/new-kits
I am between Galaxy and Delft I love it. But I want to be sure before I buy the kit. This will be my first big project, I’m so exited!!!!
Roberta Thome says
Oh my! They’re all gorgeous! How do I choose just ONE color way!?
Jenny Lowman says
I think we all have that dilemma to face! :)
Amanda Groenewald says
Could you send me e-mails in future?
Kind regards.

Andrea says
Love it! I have already ordered the rainbow colourway.
Jenny Lowman says
Great choice! :)
Natalie says
How complicated is the stitching? Will there be alternative stitches for the stitches that may be harder to master? Will there be video tutorials?
Jenny Lowman says
Hi Natalie. There is only one pattern, and we suggest you take is slow and steady. Full instructions are given for each stitch, and the Facebook groups will have plenty of people available to give you advice should you get stuck.
The best thing I can say is give it a go and see how you get on :)
Julie Bradshaw says
Hi Dedri,
This looks like a lot of fun, and I am thrilled to see your new design. I have opted out of both Facebook and Instagram, not wanting to support in any way the toxic tech cultural taking place in the USA. I joined them initially just to follow artists and CALS. Since then, they have become wastelands of ads and political junk, so deleted my profiles. I was fortunate enough to receive an email from Taemombo announcing the kits and joyfully hopped on to your blog to get the scoop. Crochet is even more important to my everyday well being as I try to negotiate today’s world with some modicum of calm. Having something inspiring to concentrate on is crucial. Thank you so much for your creativity, generousity, and optimism. Julie (I long time fan)
Juni says
Absolutely gorgeous! As always, I am amazed at your obvious talent and hard work as a designer! It’s inspiring!
I can’t wait for the CAL! I know it’s way too early to even need to order my yarn, but the Jimmy Beams site doesn’t seem to have the kits available yet. I will be checking back though!
Jenny Lowman says
Keep checking! Wool Warehouse shops worldwide if needed :)
Mar says
