Hi and welcome to Part 9 of Universe in Bloom. In this part, we will neaten up the Octagon by adding a bit of solidity… A little path all the way around the meadow we have created so far. My testers all agreed that this was a very relaxing part!

Your Octagon will still ruffle at the end of this part. That is because there is, as yet, nothing to put a bit of tension on the lace in Part 8. Once we add the corners and the border, those Pineapples will stretch and open up.

This round will bulge slightly between Pineapples. Don’t worry about it. Also, I am so sorry! There will be A LOT of counting in this round.
Tester’s Tip: “If you want landmarks when making the 123 hdc, here are the stitches that will land in the ‘weird joining hdcs’: 22, 38, 54, 70, 86, 102. So the 22nd hdc of the side (not including the corner hdc), then every 16th hdc until there are 21 sts left before the corner sp.” – Kay Crone and Susanne van der Wal
