I am very excited to announce that Wool Warehouse now has a new yarn pack available for Sophie’s Universe: a Rainbow Colour Crafter pack. When we finished Sophie’s Universe last year, I hadn’t planned on making another Sophie so soon, but I just couldn’t help myself! After using Colour Crafter for my Summer in Swanage blanket, I really wanted to use it to make another Sophie.
The Colour Crafter Sophie will be the same size as the medium Softfun Sophie, but it follows the bright colourway of the small Cotton 8 Sophie.
I have only just started on Part 6, so I don’t have that much to show you yet. I would like some company, though, so if you want to follow along with me while I make my fifth Sophie, please be my guest. I will be using #sophiesuniversecal2015 and #colourcrafterrainbowsophie when I share on social media.
Rainbow Colour Crafter Sophie
Rainbow Colour Crafter Yarn Packs
The Colour Crafter Pack contains the following colours of Scheepjes Colour Crafter:
- Brussel (2004) x 1
- Sittard (1130) x 1
- Den Bosch (1241) x 1
- Tilburg (1083) x 1
- Urk (1034) x 4
- Delftzijl (1822) x 2
- Hengelo (1084) x 2
- Meppel (1061) x 1
- Heerlen (1432) x 1
- Den Helder (1068) x 1
The yarn pack also contains a print-out that details which colours should be used for which round, and one of these ‘Authentic Sophie’s Universe’ labels (which I absolutely love)! You can buy the packs HERE in my Wool Warehouse Shop.
Size
If you follow the hook and gauge instructions supplied for the medium version of Sophie’s Universe, your blanket will be 1.4 meters x 1.4 meters when finished. If you would like a larger blanket, you can use Jean Holzman’s Stitch Sampler (paid pattern) or the Around the Bases CAL (free pattern) to extend it.
Colours Per Round
I have created a spreadsheet that details the colours and yardages used per round. You can find that HERE. As I have already mentioned, the Colour Packs include a printed list of the colours used for each round.
Instructions
You can find the instructions for Sophie’s Universe HERE as a free 20-part crochet-along. The tutorials include lots of photos and hints, as well as links to the translations and step-by-step videos.

The Rainbow Colour Crafter Yarn Pack is not available in The Wool Warehouse. Where else can I putchase the pack?
Jenny says
Hi Susie.
Unfortunately, at present in these difficult times, we have been unable to source the kit elsewhere. You can buy the balls individually if needed right now, but that is as far as we can help I am afraid.
BW. Jenny :)
Sabine Kerschbaumer says
I just got the new Color-Pack “Matropolis”, but I am not able to find an introduction in which ist written wich color ist used in the rounds. Could you help me please?
Thanks from Germany
Sabine
Dedri Uys says
Hi Sabine.
I will be releasing the colours per round on the 1st of July when the MAL starts :)
Hester Wolmarans says
Hi Dedri
I love your work, it is just as beautiful as you!
I have started with my first one of Sophie’s Universe now and find it difficult understanding the instructions. Maybe it is because I am Afrikaans and also that I am not very good at crocheting yet.
Do you perhaps have graphic sheets that I can refer to if I get stuck? I find I am able to read the graphic pictures better than written instructions,
I am adamant to finish the project, it is too beautiful to just give up! ; )
Best regards from New Zealand
Hester
Jenny says
Hi Hester. Jenny here.
To chart Sophie’s Universe would be such a mammoth task! I would suggest having a look at the videos. Maybe they will help you?
:)
Shelia says
Do you know when this yarn kit will be available?
thank you
Jenny says
Hi Sheila.
You may be able to get a future date direct from Wool Warehouse if you drop them an email (just in case Dedri isn’t sure of any dates).
Jenny :)
Lisa says
Thank you so much for the colour crafter spreadsheet!! Perfect, I couldn’t buy it as a pack as they are sold out, so I bought all colour crafter balls individually, I’ve guessed the colours for the first 30 rounds, so this is great to have!
Dedri Uys says
You’re welcome :) I’m glad it came in useful.
Andrea Woller says
Are the labels available on their own? I would love to buy some for the Sophie’s I want to make, got the book for Christmas.
Dedri Uys says
Hi Andrea. The labels are only available as part of the Official kits for the Stool Cover and as part of the Sophie’s Universe kits in my Wool Warehouse shop. How lovely that you got the book! Did you buy it yourself or did someone buy it for you? I hope you enjoy using it.
Dedri

Can’t wait to start my ‘Sophie’ as I’m mesmerised by the beauty of your creation.
Dedri Uys says
I’m so pleased to hear that!
Kathy Queen says
I live in the states and have made one Sophie. I want to order a yarn pack for my second one, but I noticed there is only a price in pounds. And, I don’t know if they ship to the US either. Can you tell me?
Dedri Uys says
Hi Kathy, both Wool Warehouse and Deramores ship internationally. If you need to know the price in dollars, you can type “x dollars in pounds” into google and it will spit out the exact dollar amount for that day.
Dane says
magnifique j’ adore c’ est vraiment trés beau félicitations bisous
Carol Derbis says
I’m loving the colors of this Sophie. Since I’ve lost my ”cro-jo” and am having hard time getting into anything, I was thinking that I would try making another Sophie….that was so much FUN to do!
Someone above questioned if she should try, since she has only done granny squares. If you follow the Sophie CAL tutorials, you’ll learn each stitch as you go along – and you’ll amaze yourself at what you can do! And you’ll have so much fin doing this Sophie – you won’t even realize that you are adding to your crochet abilities every day! Try it and HAVE FUN WITH IT!
Wishing you – and Christiaan and your beautiful boys a Blessed and Beautiful Christmas Season!
Donna says
I have just finished my fifth Sophie also. I made two last year and three this year. These last three are all wrapped and ready to be placed under the tree. I’m not quite ready to do another quite yet. I have another request for one so I’m sure I’ll be working on another one in the near future. I can say that I have never made an afghan more than once but I love Sophie! Thanks so much for providing this pattern and the opportunity to create something so lovely.
Dedri Uys says
You are most welcome, Donna. Congratulations on making 5 Sophies!!
Delene Estes says
Hello, I bought yarn to match the colors of the Rainbow color pack. My question is when I was looking at the directions it does not state what rainbow color goes where. Is there some place that I can go to find this out? Thank you for your help.
Jenny says
Delene, if I recall correctly, the colours match the Cotton 8 version of Sophie’s Universe for placement.
Jenny
Kate says
This is awesome!!
I love the colors of the large blanket, and the layout of them, I was thinking about making one with a DK weight yarn, is there a good way to guess how many balls I would need of each color?
I’m thinking I’ll use scheepjes stonewashed (not XL)
Thanks for your help!!
I’m on my 2nd Sophie this year, lol, have yet to make one for myself and I think a DK stonewashed one is calling my name!!
Jenny says
The colour crafter is DK so I would look at the meterage of the balls in the CC pack and then buy the same sort of amount in the stone wash, maybe :)
Jenny
Malika says
Will there be a corresponding Jack and Lydia pack in Colour Crafter too?
Dedri Uys says
Hi Malika.
There are no plans to make packs for them at the moment, but you can put your own pack together using the yardages and colours from the softfun pack as a guide.
Maggie Lewin says
Oh WOW how exciting – I made two Sophies last year as presents I have wanted to make another :) and I love the label
Dedri Uys says
Hi Maggie :) I love the label too! I was so excited when Scheepjes told me they were going to supply them for some of my packs :)
Elizabeth says
Your site looks awesome I like to crochet but I can only make granny squares i would like to learn other stitches
Thanks
Elizabeth Rose
Dedri Uys says
Hi Elizabeth. Esther Dijkstra from It’s all in a Nutshell has amazing video tutorials to guide you through the basics of making more complicated stitches.
Patricia Cuddeback says
I would like to know if there is anywhere where you can buy the complete Sophie’s Universe pattern printed out? I have printed out a few parts of it, but, am finding that it takes so much paper and ink that I would rather be able to purchase the whole printed pattern somewhere. Beautiful work. Just love it.
Dedri Uys says
Hi Patricia. The pattern will be available in a book soon. Until then it is only available on this website as a CAL. If you don’t want to print it all out, you can use the print friendly button to save each part as a pdf.
kathleen McGraw says
The book is beautiful! I made Sophie’s Universe as the CAL and am so glad I bought the book!
Thank you, Dedri.

Dedri Uys says
Thank you so much :)
Jane Miller says
Is there a way to buy the Sophie label? I would love to have one to put on my Sophie!
Dedri Uys says
Hi Jane. The labels are limited edition and have been supplied by Scheepjes as an addition to my Wool Warehouse packs. They are not available for sale individually.

Penny says
Hi Dedri, what a great idea, combining my 2 favourite CALs – Sophie then add extra rounds using the ATB… what a brilliant suggestion that I am going to have to try out when making my own Sophie. I already have an incompleted ATB on my bed at the moment which I use as a top covering blanket, it basically covers my queen size bed without going over the sides of the mattress. but if I made Sophie with a smaller hook I could then add ATB to make it large enough to cover the entire mattress and have it reach the floor so my cat has somewhere to hide behind while avoiding children that visit the house (he is old and does not like children lol)
