In this post, you will find the instructions for turning your Fancy Nancy Mandala into a square using a modified version of Part 4 of Sophie’s Universe. Isn’t that exciting??
I designed the Fancy Nancy mandala in honour of my friend Nancy, who has since published her first book, The Toadstool That Wanted to Stay. You can hear a very soothing rendition of the book HERE on Nancy’s Instagram feed. While you are there, have a little rummage around. Her feed is a beautiful, happy place, and you can learn all about why she decided to donate the proceeds of this book to The Brain Tumour Charity.

Instructions

To make your own Fancy Nancy Square, you will need to do the following:
Part 1
Follow the instructions for the Fancy Nancy Mandala up to Round 10.
Part 2
Add the revised Round 11 below, paying special attention to stitch marker placement.
Round 11
Ch 1 (doesn’t counts as a st). Sc in the next 14 sts, marking the tenth st with a SM.
The last sc should fall in the st after the FPsc above the Popcorn. Make 2 sc in the next st. (Sc in the next 14 sts, make 2 sc in the next st) 7 times. Join OVER the first sc with an invisible join and work away your ends. {128 sc}
Part 3
Follow my instructions for Squaring up a Mandala with 128 Stitches, remembering to start Round 1 in the marked stitch (above).
This square would look great in any yarn/colour combination. Jenny made a Fancy Nancy mandala using colours from the Rainbow Hygge CAL Kit (2017): Scheepjes Stonewashed 803 as the main colour and Catona 115, 281, 208, 280, 205, 146, 282, and 114 as the Contrasting Colours. I then squared it up for a final size of 27cm/10.6″ (74g).
I am so excited to see how your Fancy Nancy Squares turn out! If you make this square, please use #fancynancysquare and #squaringupmandalas so that we can all see them and marvel at your crochet genius :)
