Wheehee! The Lydia blanket is all done and now I just have to write up the instructions so that I can post them next Friday. My favourite part of the whole pattern is the roses in the border (which I used in Sophie’s Universe). They just make me so indescribably happy!
There were a few places in the pattern where Jenny and I were a bit unsure that the colours would actually work. One was when we had added the border leaves (too much pink followed by pale green – it made my teeth squeak!!) and another was when I added the first light blue round…and that actually caused me to change my mind about how to make the very last round.
I am so pleased that I did decide to change the last round. I love the simple, delicate blue scallops. I think it really ‘anchors’ the blue used in the Lydia Squares.
If you know anything about me, you will know that I am very last-minute. So in true LAWIM form, I finished this blanket at midnight last night and needed to take some photos today (before or during work) so that I could release this ‘reveal’ tonight. I traveled to work early, armed with my Lydia blanket and my camera. I got off at Baron’s Court (one stop after I usually get off) and had a leisurely stroll through the cemetery in order to find a place to take some photos.
I am THAT glad that my boss didn’t see my skulking around draping my Lydia blanket over all manner of frost-covered tree stumps to get a photo! At any rate, this is the finished Lydia blanket and I LOVE it! Oddly, the thing that appeals to me most is the little X’s formed by the corners.
I think it would make the perfect gift for a new baby girl. What do you think?
I will be sharing the pattern for the Lydia blanket next week (along with yardages and colours used). Yarn packs for this project are now available from Wool Warehouse (includes printed pattern). For a full list of Scheepjes stockists, visit Scheepjes (NL).

Lovely! The corner x’s lead me to the spots of yellow and now those are my favorites! Very sweet baby blanket that incorporates close stitching with a few spaces – I think close stitching is important on baby blankets so they don’t get their fingers hooked in (maybe I’m over-thinking this? Just remembering my young one at that age…). Thanks for sharing!

I cannot wait for the pattern and the colour packs to be released….. Will the colour packs only be in Soft Fun Cotton 8? I am hoping for one in Colour Crafter as I really want to try Scheepjes and I normally only use Acrylic yarns….. If not could you or Jenny possibly reply to this with the colour shades closest to what is in the patterns once everything else is ready and released… Pretty Please…. also you should get a Buy a Coffee Button for your page… You do so much in the way of your patterns, all the photos and tutorials involved and you offer them all to us for free… with the Buy a Coffee Button we could show our appreciation and help keep your wonderful work going……
Jenny says
The blanket pattern is now out and Dedri used the Scheepjes Cotton 8 yarn, Penny. The Soft Fun is a different yarn – acrylic and nice and soft. You would have to give us a while to create an alternative colours listing as the shades are different between each type of yarn.
Basically, you would need a pale pink, mid pink, dark pink, a pale green and pale blue of your liking.
To my knowledge, the packs will just be in the Cotton 8 and I am sure Dedri will confirm soon enough :)
Using the Affiliate Links helps Dedri a lot, but I have to say I do like the sound of a ‘buy a coffee’ button, too!

How lovely is the Lydia blanket. My mothers name was Lydia and Sh crochet blankets for all her grandchildren before she passed away I still have some squares she did not finish. Thanks for reminding me. It is beautiful and so was Lydia.
Dedri Uys says
Hi :) I think you should use your mother’s squares in a memory blanket. I am very sentimental and am forever keeping little sentimental bits to incorporate into other things.
