Hi guys!
I’m guessing you landed on this page because you have already bought the Amamani Puzzle Balls book and I would like to thank you for your support. I hope that you enjoy making these animals as much as I have enjoyed designing them.
I have started this page as a place to highlight errors in the book and clear up any misunderstandings. This page will be updated as new errors/concerns are brought to my attention, so feel free to bookmark it so that you can find it easily later on.
If you stumbled on this page accidentally and have not yet seen the book, it is available from Annie’s in both paperback and electronic format HERE. You can also order it on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Deramores.
If you would like to see all of my Puzzle Balls, including my free Puzzle Ball patterns, please have a look at my Amamani post HERE.

Try as I might, on the large spike, I cannot come up with 10 stitches on row 6. I keep coming up 12. Am I doing something wrong, or did I find a typo?
Dedri Uys says
Hi Beth-Anne,
I have had a look at my copy of the book and it says Row 6 is 12 sc. Can you double-check your copy and let me know? This is very perplexing.
Dedri
Beth-Anne says
Dedri,
I have checked my book, and it does say 10sc. Perhaps mine is a first edition and this has since been corrected.

Dedri Uys says
Hi again. That is quite possible, although I don’t recall this being flagged up. Would you like me to send you a more recent copy?
Beth-Anne says
Dedri,
I very much appreciate the offer, but that is not necessary. Thank you, though. By the way, my grandson really enjoys his puzzle dinosaur. ;-)
Dedri Uys says
You’re welcome :) I’m so happy to hear that he enjoys it :)

Hi Dedri
I bought the Amamani Puzzle Balls quite some time ago. Unfortunately my iPad froze and had to be taken back to factory settings yesterday. Consequently I lost all my patterns. I am wondering if it is possible that I could have a replacement please?
Many thanks.
Mary Ely
Dedri Uys says
Hi Mary. That must have been devastating for you. I think you can contact the shop you bought the e-book from and ask for a replacement (or contact Annie’s directly as the publisher/distributor). I am not sure what their policy is on replacements, though. Please let me know how you get on and I hope you can recover some of your other patterns.
Sandy says
Thanks for posting erratum for dinosaur head, are there others? I’m not sure why rnd 8 isn’t symmetrical for eye placement and 11 sc on one side, 9 on the other side of the 2dc per stitch X4.
Dedri Uys says
Hi Sandy. There are no other corrections for the dinosaur. Due to the nature of short rows, stitch counts are sometimes asymmetric to obtain a symmetric look when the project is finished. I played around with eye placement until I found something I liked, and ended up with the placement suggested in the book. You are welcome to move the eyes around until you find a placement you are happy with.
Kindra says
Hi, I’m currently making Eleanor the Elephant and need help in my next step.
I just finished making the head and attaching the 3 wedges (page 33). At the end of the last wedge it states “Do not fasten off.” But then going on to the next step/page, it indicates to attach the lids to the wedges and from what I can understand, it is starting with the 1st wedge lid that is already attached to the head and not the last wedge lid where my yarn is from not fastening off. What am I supposed to be doing with the yarn at the end of the 3rd wedge lid? And am I understanding the directions correctly that I am supposed to be attaching the wedges starting with the lid already attached to the head?
Thank you!
Dedri Uys says
Hi Kindra. The next step starts: “Attach the first 3 wedges to the lids according to the instructions on page 15.” So starting at the lid farthest away from the head, place one wedge behind the lid and attach it with 15 sc’s (as instructed on page 15). Attach the next wedge to the next lid (which will be the central lid). Attach the third wedge to the next lid, which will be next to the head. Attach the last of the 4 wedges to the head as instructed. Is that any clearer? You are starting at the point farthest away from the head and working towards the head.

Hi I’m making Dexter but can’t seem to get the short rows I understand the concept on the head with working into row 9 but confused as what to do when working into riund 10 please can you help as I’ve undone 10 times already and my 2 year old will be going to school at this rate lol thanks again :-) Sarah xx
Dedri Uys says
Hi Sarah. Can you use the “Contact Me” tab at the top of this page to send me an email so that we can figure it out together? Thanx,
Dedri
Jane Thurston says
I have made all the pieces for the dinosaur, and thought I was on a roll, til it came to putting them all together. I cannot (for the life of me!) combine the 2 leg and feet segments as you describe, and am still unsure which way the wedges
should point. I also don’t see how I will have a space for the head wedge to fit in there. It’s been really fun to make until this point (I probably need a 6 year old to put it together for me – but since i don’t, can you help?)
Thanks!
Dedri Uys says
Hi Jane. I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble assembling the dinosaur. Have you had a look at the little video clip Annie’s have supplied on the site? It shows the dinosaur being built and taken apart as a stop-motion video.
You can find that here: https://www.anniescatalog.com/detail.html?prod_id=113005
Jane says
Thank-You, Dedri !!!!!
I got it! And he’s adorable. Tho’ I’m not sure about letting a kid take it apart…………Just Kidding!!!!!!!
Now I’ll try another one, with a little more confidence…..Thanks!

Great!
Helen says
Hi I’ve just received your gorgeous book, but I’m either going mad or there’s a mistake in the pattern for the basic wedge??? By following the pattern you end up with more of a triangular wedge than a half circle, I’ve looked at your free ball pattern for the wedge on your blog and it’s different to the book. Do I follow the book or your free pattern?
Not complaining brilliant book great patterns just want to get it right !! X
Dedri Uys says
Helen, thank you for getting in touch with me. I have had another (and another) look, and the patterns are the same, just worded differently. You should have 3 repeats in each row (in total). I think you might somehow have skipped a stitch in the first row, leaving you with 2 lots of repeats in subsequent rows instead of 3. Does that make sense? If you find the wording confusing, feel free to use the wording from the amish puzzle ball instead.
If you can send me a photo of what your “half circle” ends up looking like, I will better be able to help you.
Dedri

I just finished making Dexter the Dinosaur for my three year old grandson. Thank you so much for the detailed instructions, the photos and just the sheer magic of the project! Although I was very excited to buy the book, I was a little intimidated and not sure I would be able to complete the project. Now I can’t wait to make more of them. Logan says he wants the lion next! Thank you, thank you thank you!
Dedri Uys says
You are welcome, Mary. And thank you for taking the time to give me some feedback. If I can be super cheeky: do you mind doing a tiny review on whichever site you bought the book from? Just a star rating and whatever you thought…it would be MOST appreciated x

I just bought your book “Amamani Puzzle Balls” from Amazon and I am so excited to start on all of them! I think I will start with Gemina the Giraffe, but I have a Baby Bomber Jacket to finish first!! I’m so glad I found your website from my Chat n Craft group. Happy Crocheting!
Dedri Uys says
Thank you, Debbie. Please let me know if you have any trouble with the patterns :)
