Aha! I lure you in with a photo of a pretty crochet afghan so that I can moan at you about my website and the fact that I am going grey!
Let’s get the moaning out of the way first so that we can focus on the blanket.
I would like to say thank you for each and every one of you who took the time to message, email, comment, etc. to wish me a happy birthday. I can honestly say that I have never (EVER) had so many birthday wishes and I have never felt more special. You have made the legion grey hairs that appeared over the last 2 weeks seem like a minor thing. Thank you!
You’ve probably noticed that my website looks slightly different.
Websites are funny things. They require coding. A lot of coding. I cannot code.
For the last 2 weeks I have been having a lot of trouble doing anything on my website. Replying to a comment took me about 10 minutes. Trying to publish a post? Forget about it!!
To cut a long story short, some of the coding on my website had a falling out with some of the other coding and as an inconvenient consequence, everything broke. So I have changed to a new layout and hopefully this new layout’s coding will play nice and I can finally spend an evening crocheting again!
At the moment I am in two minds about the new “look”. It feels very generic and foreign to me, but I do like the crisp clean look. If you have any suggestions, feel free to spam me with comments.
And now…the blanket…
Pretty Crochet Flower Afghan
When we were at Fabric Warehouse last month, I saw one of the ladies (Lynne Rickard) working on this beautiful afghan. I asked her if I could take some photos (and some notes) and she kindly said yes.
This is her rendition of the Colour Pop blanket by Nicki Trench (also called Buggy Blanket). I love Lynne’s muted colour-way, probably because Sherbet is one of my favourite colours!
The pattern is from a book called ‘Cute and Easy Crochet with Flowers‘, which is available in both paperback and digital format, and can be found HERE on Amazon. I bought a digital copy and I am very pleased that I did. It contains some very cute patterns, quite a few of which are indeed quick and easy to make.
Lynne used Stylecraft Special Dk in Graphite, Silver, Parchment, Mocha, and Sherbet (thank you Kay for reminding me of the exact colours). The yarn is available from Deramores HERE.
Righto. I am off to tinker with the coding a little bit more, and then, if I am lucky, I can get two stitches of crochet in before bed time. Or maybe not. Mr. Lookatwhatimade is watching Black Adder and I keep running over to watch it instead of just listening to it, which does not bode well for either code or crochet!

Happy Belated Birthday sorry I missed it. I adore your wedding dress and I love Gerberas too. Thank you for the link to the book – there is an adorable flower bag I must make. Perfect for using up my scraps as well. I quite like the look of the new website BTW – I wish the font was a little larger though. For some reason your website does funny things on my tablet though – I get the basic layout without the formatting. You are one better than me though because I wouldnt have the foggiest idea how to set up a web site. Happy Hooking :)

Happy Birthday D-Acie I’m australianand Aussies also have the custom of adding ie to everything – such as Aussie- maybe it’s a Southern Hemisphere Thing!
You look stunning in the red dress!
Hilary Clinton recently said she’ll not be going grey if she makes it to the Whitehouse. I think that’s a great idea – colour away Dedri
I love your wonderful ideas
I thought I saw you doing a Van Gogh starry night type square – now I cant find – did you? Wouldn’t it be a cool afghan? There’s an idea!
Enjoy your 34 th year xx from Fran in Perth

I have also seen someone making a Van Gogh inspired square, but it wasn’t our lovely Dedri, Fran :)

Thank you for the wonderful post about daises and thank you for the links to the Daisy Gift Wrap. I look forward to your upcoming posts. Do not worry about the gray hair, it happens to all of us. I look at it as an adventure and an excuse to try new hair colors.
Jenny says
You are right Marlene! I hide my grey behind rainbow bright hair colours at times :)

Happy belated Birthday Dedri.
My b’day is Saturday, hope My computer doesn’t do anything bad.
I love the blanket you showed in the Newsletter, with the cat on it? When I tried to go the website to take a further look, I got a message saying “there is an error in your link code”. Could you just spell out the site’s address so I can type it in my browser?
Anyway, have a better weekend.
Barb

Thank you for sharing your daisy story…here’s mine:
When my husband and I started courting, we both lived in the country where daisies grew wild. Being young, with rather empty pockets, he would always pick bouquets of daisies to bring to me (and there was also that one time he and his sister brought a bag of tree frogs to me–I thought they were cute–so I put them in the bathtub whilst we visited, not thinking about their ability to jump…boy, did my sister have a shock when she opened the door!). Before we married he went into the military, again empty pockets, but he could always manage to find someone growing daisies who would take pity on him and cut a bouquet for me (yes, he’s charming and the uniform didn’t hurt!). Needless to say when we married, I carried daisies, as did each of our daughters when they married. When we kiss goodbye, or say goodnight, our family always says, “Love you more than daisies”. To this day he still brings me daisies every few weeks…it is a magical flower.
Jenny says
Oh Sioban! What a fabulous story!
Watch out for tree frogs – you never know where they will turn up :)

Hi Dedri,
A belated happy birthday to you. I really like the new look of your new website, with less clutter it’s much easier to navigate. Clever girl you. My hubby is the computer techie for me. I’m still on my L plates with my new website, don’t look, I haven’t put anything on there yet.
Black Adder and Game of Thrones, you have good taste. Love the blanket especially the colour ways.
Cheers Maggie

A big happy birthday to you! I will be 34 as well in another month. It is strange to think of myself as being that age as I remember thinking that my mum must be very old when she was that age. ;) I now disagree with that thought of course. Definitely not old! I always think it unfair that men get away with looking distinguished with grey hairs but women are just getting old. I think distinguished should work both ways. :)
Anyway, good luck with your pesky coding. It can be ver irritating ironing out the bugs of a new website. Fingers crossed it fixes itself up quickly for you (rather than causing you more grey hairs!) :)
Jenny says
Poor Dedri has been almost tearing her hair out working at getting the blog back in order. I have gone grey worrying about her too, but I hide it with red, purple or even blue hair dye lol
Ramona Kane says
Don’t let the gray hair worry you. I was gray from the age of 16 & when my school mates made fun of me I just replied “I’m gray earlier than the rest of you because I’m smarter.” Maybe that would be a good idea for you with the patterns that you have on your site.
I started Sophie about a month ago & will have it done in time for the fair next month.
Thanks again for the great pattern.
Happy belated birthday
